Trailer Days Are Over
Friday night, Amy and I were on the phone wrapping up the details to sell our house.
When everything was finished, she smiled and said, "Your trailer days are over, Gregg Taylor."
Now... technically, they weren't.
After more than a year, I'm down to just a couple of weeks living in the van down by the river. We have one more move ahead of us before finally making our way from Minnesota to Texas.
But the moment she said it, something shifted.
It felt like one of those long road trips when you've been watching the GPS count down all day.
Seven hours.
Five hours.
Three.
Then, somewhere along the way… 58 minutes remaining.
Nothing has really changed. You're still driving the same highway. Still headed in the same direction. But somehow everything feels different.
The finish line is no longer just an idea. You can almost see it. You sit up a little straighter. And the last few miles don't feel quite so long.
Every once in a while, someone gives us a gift like that.
It's not advice.
It's perspective.
They remind us we're farther along than we realized, and they help us recognize what we couldn’t quite see for ourselves.
Maybe you're still healing.
Or grieving.
Trying to repair a broken relationship.
Learning to trust again.
Finding your footing after a hard season.
Whatever the journey, sometimes all it takes is one person who helps you believe you’re almost there.
I suspect that's one of the greatest gifts we can give each other.
To remind someone their journey has been leading somewhere.
Look them in the eye and say—in whatever words fit—
"You're closer than you think."
And sometimes...
that's enough.
Much love,
Pastor Gregg
